Frequently asked questions BACK

  1. How to download boiler database bedf.dat?
Visit www.sedbuk.com/data1/bedf.dat. From File, choose Save as, file name should be bedf_dat and it should be saved as a text file. The file should be saved in c:\bedf.

  2. The boiler database does not work. Why?
Your program is probably an older version which will not read the current database. Please download a new version of the program. (Free if you are an existing registered user)

  3. With Sapper version 6 when I try to save the calculation I get an error message and the program crashes. Why?
With older versions, if your file name includes "/" , "\" , "|" or ":" it will crash so choose another file name. Later versions have dealt with this so please download a new version.

  4. What are the main changes to Part L1?
For new dwellings, a new concept of a Carbon Index Method for showing compliance, better U-values, new method of calculating U-values and adjustment to the Target U-value method. There will be similar changes for buildings other than dwellings.

  5. As a user of Sapper, will I have to pay full price for the new software.
No, as with previous updates, there will be a special discount for existing users.

  6. Does the new U-value calculator do calculations for warm roofs?
Yes. You simply specify the layers as usual choosing a layer called 'unventilated loft space (warm roof)'. You will be asked for the total areas of components between the inside and the loft space, and the area of components between the loft space and the external environment. The calculation required by BS EN ISO 13789 is quite complicated but with Dewpoint it all happens automatically. The program will display and print the full calculation. You can also save the calculations for use in other projects.

  7. Is there a program which checks compliance with the new AD Part L2 Buildings Other Than Dwelling?
BOTD version 2.20 is now available in beta version. It will check compliance with the Elemental Method, Carbon Emissions Calculation Method, and the Carbon Performance Rating method for Offices as BRE Digest 457. Checks for solar overheating as Appendix H can be done. For Scottish users it will do the Elemental and Heat Loss Methods. Click here to find out more
